Leadership Book Presentation :: Introduction

As a group, we searched for a book that would deliver sound management principles for all organizations and lessons that we could use in our careers as professional librarians. With Execution: the Discipline of Getting Things Done, we feel we found the perfect choice.

There are many leaders who have "big ideas" but do not have that extra skill emphasized in this text - knowing how to turn visions into executable realities. This book demonstrates how to acquire and use the skill of execution. Having this skill will help those in library leadership positions to successfully implement the new tool/technologies/services necessary in the 21st Century.

In addition, this book was chosen for the following secondary reasons:

  1. It was recommended by someone who is the president of a company.
  2. The page count is practical for the time allotted.
  3. It addresses an important but often overlooked leadership skill: execution of tasks.
  4. It is relevant to the library workforce/environment.
